I had breast cancer in 2012, and in January 2014 I had to have my two year scans.  At this time I also had to have a hysterectomy, with 6 weeks off work, 3 of them unpaid.  I realised that I could not afford to have the mammogram and ultrasound.  I’ve known the amazing women who started Young Pink Sisters for 2 years, but it didn’t occur to me to ask them for help.  I just assumed that I would have to forego the check up and that was that.  Then I was reminded that this is one of the reasons YPS started.  To help us to pay our medical bills.  I contacted Lauren, sent her the bill and it was paid.  The scans were normal, and I didn’t have to worry about it while I was recovering from the hysterectomy.  I had peace of mind, without the drama of having to ask family or friends for a loan!  It is hard to reach out for financial help, but I am so very grateful for the support of YPS at a time when I really needed it.
